Mike’s volunteer efforts have included:
As Chair of the Finance Committee, worked to maintain Milton’s strong finances and its AAA rating from Wall Street (the highest);
As a member of the School Building Committee, helped to move forward with a new school to address overcrowding;
Negotiated with the Archdiocese of Boston for the land to build a new East Milton Fire Station;
Worked with the Milton Animal League and the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee to build a new Animal Shelter;
As Chair of the Municipal Broadband Committee, worked to design and build a new Broadband System;
As Chair of the Finance Committee, allocated nearly $400,000 in ARPA funds to help Milton’s businesses;
Worked with neighbors on Governors Road and Grafton Street to install speed bumps on Governors Road and Traffic Monitoring on Grafton Ave., Plymouth Ave., and State Street;
Fought to restore parking spaces removed during the East Milton Deck project;
Proposed and passed restarting the Youth Task Force;
Proposed and passed creation of the Climate Action Planning Committee;
Assisted in negotiating a new contract with Comcast that resulted in approximately $1,100,000 in additional payments to benefit Milton, and New England’s first dark fiber agreement for institutional broadband;
Proposed and passed changing the name of the Board of Selectman to the Select Board;
Proposed and passed creation of the Youth Task Force, served on it, and negotiated the agreement for Milton’s Youth Center - the Wildcat Den;
Proposed and passed creation of the Traffic Mitigation Committee, served on it, and assisted in preparing its report;
Proposed and passed Milton’s first Pride Month Proclamation;
Provided the Select Board’s first recognition of the Juneteenth holiday;
Negotiated to improve a new health insurance plan design for municipal employees that saved more than $1,100,000;
Assisted in negotiating with RCN for expanded cable and internet coverage in Milton;
Drafted and negotiated the agreement for the Neponset Neighbors Together Fund, a cooperative effort of Milton, Mattapan, and Dorchester with The United Way to raise funds for those most in need during the COVID-19 crisis;
Proposed and passed Milton’s Proclamation of a Day of Reflection and Witness for Seeking Equity and Justice for All;
Proposed and passed creation of the Budget and Financial Planning Advisory Committee;
Proposed and passed creation of the Advisory Committee on Equity and Justice for All; and
Proposed and worked to pass the Community Preservation Act, to help pay for capital projects while exempting low income residents and low to moderate income seniors.
